Our 2 Must-Have Cleaning Products

Staying true to foreclosed-upon fashion, our house was really dirty when we moved in. Not just sweep-away-the-dust dirty… more like hands-and-knees-scrubbing-the-tile dirty.

That being said, cleaning is so satisfying. While it’s hard work, with each scrub I felt I was giving our house a second chance at life! Here are two of the must-haves I keep around the house for all our hard surfaces.

Mr. Clean Magic Erasers

To clean anything light-colored, I swear by Mr. Clean Magic Erasers! They are literally magic. Just wet an eraser and go to work – it shines like new.

Take a look at the pitting in the tile…

At first, I was disgusted by how dark and “dirty” the grout was… until I realized that it was literally dark grout!  🙄

I tried so many things.

  1. First, I tried a grout-specific cleaner – it didn’t do much and it smelled like urine.
  2. After that, I switched to Comet, but it had some bleach in it which didn’t agree with the grout.
  3. I stumbled across this article on using toilet bowl cleaner. I was really excited to try it out, so I bought the exact brand mentioned in the article. After using it, some chunks of the grout started breaking away. Nope.
  4. I had picked up this Mr. Clean Multi-Surface cleaner for around the house, and as a last resort decided to give it a try. Not only did it help the grout, it did WONDERS on cleaning the tile, which I realized was the bigger issue.

The instructions say to pour directly on tough spots, so I filled an empty spray bottle with the solution and sprayed the soiled area. As I scrubbed, I could see the dirt just lifting away. *angels singing*

What must-have cleaning products do you keep around the house? While I love this multi-surface cleaner, I’d love to go with something green or organic. Any suggestions?

Please note that this post is in no way affiliated with the Mr. Clean company. I have personally used and loved these two products. That being said, if you click an Amazon link above and choose to buy something, I’ll receive a small percent of the sale to help support the blog.

  1. I also have just discovered Magic Erasers for the first time! I will say I go through them pretty quickly–like after one wall and a door, I needed to move on to the next one. I don’t know…am I not using it correctly or do they actually wear down? They do work wonders though!! Amazing for my new house. Great post girlfriend! 😀

Right?? No, they do wear out kind of quick, but I use them until there’s nothing left!

  2. Love. Love. Love magic erasers!! For my showers I do love …. What’s that called Hayley… I used it in your master shower and it did great… Dang sorry I can’t remember what it’s called, I’ll report back 😉

I LOVE Magic Erasers!! We put our house on the market recently and I have used the erasers in MANY places!! One of the boys had drawn on their white bedroom door with a pen and pencil and it came right off with the eraser. Looked like new!!

It’s seriously a miracle worker!! I don’t even know what causes the marks, but it removes it. Good as new!

  4. Mr. Clean magic erasers are amazing and I have used them for years? My other favorite cleaning product for soap scum in the shower and tub is Kaboom! It works wonders in our shower!

Oh good call, Nancy!! We had a nasty shower in our Master but it cleaned up nice with The Works. I’ll definitely have to try out Kaboom! 🙂
